How can I set up a USB plug in DVD drive to be default so I can put in my windows OS disc and install clean?

My original DVD drive is broken and the replacement costs about 200 bucks for the compatible model. However, if I can use a USB plug in DVD drive as default I can install a new copy of windows on my laptop? How can I do this?

You need to get into the bios and change the boot order to boot from your usb cd drive first.
Once you`ve done this, you should be ok to reinstall as usual.
I can`t tell you how to get into bios, as it`s a different method with different computers.
Try F12 at startup if that doesn`t work, try others until you get the right one.
I know it works as I tried it with my usb cd the other day.
I didn`t go through with the installation, I just tried the xp disc to see if it would work.
