what things should I do to keep my Mac running smooth?
I have 2 Mac's that I just bought, and I have had PC's my whole life, is there anything that I should do to keep my Mac running at its full potential? (I am running OS 10.4.9 Tiger) like Defragmenting the hard drive, etc.

Regular software update - ESPECIALLY firmware. If there's a firmware update install it straight away, it's really important.
Complete system reinstall once a year - backup all your files first of course.
Regular clearouts of junk you don't need or want anymore, followed by a restart.
If you're going to be away from the computer for a while, just restart it and leave it. Restarts are gooooood. It helps it reshuffle things. I've had programs go crazy on me because my computer been on for like a week straight and I restart and everything's peachy.
