Is it true you can upgrade to Mac Os X Snow Leopard if you have Tiger?

I thought you had to have the Leopard os installed to upgrade to Snow Leopard but I read somewhere that you can just go directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard...which would be about $100 cheaper than buying the Mac Box Set apple..
