Pot luck dinner question......what should I make?
We're going to "family fun night" at my son's preschool tonight. Everyone has to bring two dishes. I have no idea what to make.
Here's what I do know....Every other time we have gone there's about 15 different Mac n cheese, baked beans, meatballs, potatoes, ziti/lasagna dishes.
I want to make something different. I am going to make a big pan of mixed seasoned vegetables. I'm thinking zucchini, squash, baby carrots and broccoli maybe?? (I have yet to ever see a vegetable at one of these things)
But what should I make for the other dish? I was thinking some kind of white fish over rice but that might not be well received.
IDEAS?? Thanks!
Jen M, for what it's worth and this is my opinion, they can have their baked beans and god forbid darn Mac & Cheese. I did this for one of my children when they were at school and it was a big hit.
I picked up from a party supply place, a large disposable platter or tray, and three dip salad bowls, also dispose able. The platter I made was an Antipasto, with a variety of Ham, Salami Calabresi, Milano Salami, Mortadella, prosciutto parma, I used three types of cheeses, one being the provolone, friulano, and a more mild. I also had the pickled mixed vegetables in vinegar. I did a tossed salad using romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes halved, thinly sliced fennel. the Italian dressing I used was EVOO, dijon and balsamic, the sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, I put on or dressed the salad when I got down there. I already knew in advance the numbers being catered for, that way I knew how many to cater for.
Jen what I prepared, went down real well with the parents committee, the amount of lasagna, stews and pastas, there were three and four of each basically. A couple made a main and a desert.
Maybe that will give you an idea.
Chris
